The first cruise ship of the 2014-2015 season visited Port Nelson on Saturday, 6 December when the Caledonian Sky arrived for a short call. Built in 1991 the 91m-long vessel is owned by Noble Caledonia and carried some 107 passengers and 78 crew. The ship had spent time in Milford Sound before travelling up the West Coast - arriving in Golden Bay on 5 December. The vessel anchored off Tarakohe and passengers enjoyed time ashore visiting Waikoropupu springs and mingling with the locals in Takaka. Many local businesses stayed open late that night to allow passengers time to shop.
While in Nelson passengers visited the WOW Museum, took local bus tours and spent time shopping in the central city.
The Caledonian Sky is acknowledged as one of the finest small ships operating in the luxury cruise sector. The vessel departed on Saturday evening for New Plymouth, her next port of call in New Zealand.
