The afternoon of Sunday, 27 October saw the long awaited arrival into port of the FPSO "Raroa". After being towed the 80km’s from the Maari oilfield off Taranaki, the ship was forced to wait a number of days for weather and tide conditions to coincide for a safe entry. Guided into port by five tugs, and at 252m long and 42m wide, the converted tanker is the largest vessel to enter the port. Replacement of a mooring swivel and other maintenance is expected to take approximately a month, then the ship will return to its base off the Taranaki coast.
