Port Nelson’s work on the visiting vessel the FPSO Raroa during October and November was completed ahead of schedule and without a hitch, The 252m long and 42m wide vessel is the largest vessel to have ever entered the Port.
The Raroa was towed from the Maari oilfield off Taranaki and waited for the right weather and tide conditions for entering Port Nelson on 28 October. The vessel, which does not have its own engine power, was guided into Port by five tugs.
The work programme for the Raroa was expected to take at least a month and included the technically challenging task of replacing its mooring swivel. The work was completed ahead of schedule, allowing for additional maintenance work to be completed and an early departure back to base for the vessel on 18 November.
