Double lift required for 170 tonnes

On Sunday the 3rd of March Swire Shipping vessel "Kwantung" came alongside in Nelson, on a one off call to discharge a special piece of cargo. Onboard from Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea was a transformer for the Marsden Valley substation in Nelson. Weighing in at 170 tonnes, the transformer required a double lift, with two of Port Nelson’s three Liebherr cranes working in tandem to discharge the unit. Over-dimensional transport specialists Tranzcarr Heavy Haulage were tasked with moving the transformer from wharf to destination, utilising one of their multi axled low loader road units.
