You probably already know Port Nelson’s reputation as a great place to work. It is the maritime gateway for the top of the South Island and a vital hub supporting the region’s continued economic growth and prosperity. As an essential service operator, the Port has come through COVID-19 in good shape.

And you probably also know that the Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough regions are a really great place to live and play in; the weather’s some of the best in the country, the people are warm and friendly, and the natural environment is second to none.

So, if you are an experienced Supervisor or Foreman with a background in either logistics, heavy machinery, marine operations, or primary industries, or believe you have the capability to learn our container and log vessel loading operation then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for an experienced Supervisor or Foreman to join our busy Stevedoring team in the loading of containers in Nelson and log vessels at both Nelson and Picton. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to advance their supervisory career within the stable environment of our successful Port company. Unlike our competitors,  Port Nelson gives you the advantage of specialising in multiple cargo operations, including Logs, Containers, Cars and Breakbulk between two local Ports.

Our Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the loading operation is carried out safely and efficiently. People leadership is a key component in this role, you will need to lead from the front and transfer your experience from another industry into the Stevedoring environment. When not stevedoring, you will be involved in pre-planning vessels.

We want to hear from enthusiastic team players with the following:

  • strong leadership qualities including performance management & coaching skills;
  • a high degree of safety awareness and knowledge;
  • planning skills to efficiently manage labour and utilise plant;
  • effective communication skills with both internal & external customers;
  • a commitment to learning;
  • flexibility to work a range of shift patterns & away from home;
  • ideally a knowledge of stevedoring operations would be an advantage, but not essential, as training will be provided

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Port Nelson team and be part of a local business that is focused on providing outstanding service. We are recognised as one of the best employers in the Region and pride ourselves on our people, which is why we are committed to providing a great work environment, ongoing support and a competitive remuneration package and relocation support of up to $5,000.

It will also require you to demonstrate our ASPIRE values – Accountability, Safety, Passion, Integrity/honesty, Respect and Excellence.

We operate a drug and alcohol testing programme.

We need to move quickly and will be assessing applications as they are received so please apply ASAP  .
