Port Nelson Ltd (PNL) is the maritime gateway for the Nelson Marlborough region – a vital hub for economic activity and a key stakeholder in the region’s continued growth and prosperity.
As Port Asset Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the repairs and replacement of PNL’s infrastructure and facilities assets, coordinate the annual maintenance programme and project manage engineering and facilities projects.
In this newly created role reporting into the Senior Port Engineer, you will play a key role in managing the lifecycle and maintenance of port assets including wharf, pavement, building, structural, stormwater and sewer. This involves determining the rolling repair and maintenance schedule, working with consulting engineers to develop solutions, and understanding the wider implications of maintenance work to PNL. Alongside this you will manage any immediate maintenance and repair work that is required, with the PNL Utilities Team. You will be responsible for setting up and maintaining preventative maintenance plans with the PNL Maintenance Planner, setting and working within budgets, determining work plans, managing contracts and tendering processes.
To be successful in this role, our preferred candidate will be a qualified engineer, have a proven background with structural or civil engineering projects, with experience in Asset Management, be solutions and future focused, and be an autonomous decision maker. You will be tech savvy, and experience with Maximo (or similar programme) is preferred as you will work within this system to manage asset information.
Leadership skills are essential as you will be managing internal PNL stakeholders and staff, consultants, contractors, and suppliers to enable successful asset maintenance. Relationship building and communication are vital to be able to enable interdepartmental cohesion. You will also be committed to following health and safety practices and identifying any deficiencies or improvements to health and safety at PNL.
One day is never the same as the last, and you will have multiple job fronts running at one time, therefore the ability to demonstrate strong process, planning, and organisational skills will be essential.
