Location: Nelson

  • Enjoy a hands-on role while building on your maintenance & operational experience
  • Leading local employer based in Sunny Nelson
  • Relocation assistance plus great benefits

Port Nelson has a reputation as being a great place to work. It is the maritime gateway for the top of the South Island and a vital hub supporting the region’s continued economic growth and prosperity.

The Nelson/Tasman regions are a great place to live and play in; the weather’s some of the best in NZ and the people are warm and friendly.

It’s exciting times for our Nelson Marine Precinct, Port Nelson’s $20m redevelopment of the Nelson Slipway with a new Cimolai travel lift, will result in a modern marine haul-out and maintenance facility.

So, if you have a marine background, a mechanical interest and like the idea of developing your skills on the job - we would love to hear from you.

Reporting to the Slip Master, this permanent full-time role will be responsible for providing assistance at both our slipways, to support the running of it in a safe, effective and efficient manner. No two days will be the same. Responsibilities range from maintenance, block work and generally supporting the Slip Master.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • Marine background with a mechanical interest
  • Physically fit and have a genuine commitment to health and safety
  • A strong appetite to upskill and develop
  • A can-do attitude with solid planning skills to ensure efficient operations and compliance
  • Effective communication skills with both internal and external customers
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or alone
  • A related trade qualification is preferred, but not essential, demonstrated experience is also acceptable.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Port Nelson team and be part of a local business that is focused on providing outstanding service. We are recognised as one of the best employers in the Region and pride ourselves on our people, which is why we are committed to providing a great work environment, ongoing support and a competitive remuneration package.

At Port Nelson Ltd, irrespective of our position, we all strive to uphold our “ASPIRE” values: Accountability, Safety, Passion, Integrity/honesty, Respect and Excellence.

Please note: Port Nelson Ltd is an alcohol and drug-free workplace. Pre-employment testing is part of our recruitment process. Applicants for this position must be NZ citizens or already have permanent residency to be considered for this role.

For further information please contact Jacqui on 027 734 0113.

Applications close 5pm Sunday, 7 July 2024 unless filled prior.
