Navigation Safety Notices are issued by the Nelson Harbourmaster to inform all port and waterway users of any circumstance that may affect the safety of navigation within harbour limits, as defined by Navigation Safety Bylaw No. 218.

Bylaw 218 Navigation Safety 2019

The Nelson City Council has adopted the Navigation Safety Bylaw 2019 and it came into effect on 10 October 2019.  It has replaced the previous navigation Safety and Recreational Marina Bylaws.

New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code

The New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code is a voluntary national standard for the safe management of marine activities in ports and harbours, to support national and local legislation. It covers all activity associated with the movement of ships entering, leaving and navigating within ports and harbours.

Port Nelson Limited and Nelson City Council are jointly compliant with the New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code.
