Port Nelson supports the Marine Engineering Cluster in Te Tauihu

Situated at the top of the South Island, Calwell is owned and operated by Port Nelson Ltd. The site has the third largest slipway in New Zealand, it can comfortably accommodate vessels up to 80m in length, 13.5m beam and weight of up to 2,500 tonnes. In addition, the site is being re-developed.
The new project will create a modern marine maintenance facility that allows more rapid lifting of vessels in the range 50 to 2,400 tonnes. The new development maintains the Calwell Slipway, creates new finger wharves and a hardstand area which will allow a new marine travel lift to operate.
