Safeen Prime returns to Port Nelson for what we expect to be the vessel's final voyage
Safeen Prime, a container vessel that generates noise disturbance in Nelson will return to Port Nelson, for what we expect to be the vessel's final voyage, at approximately 10:00 on Thursday 15th September.
Port Nelson has limited the vessel’s time to be berthed at the Port, we will endeavour to have the vessel leave the berth as soon as there is sufficient water depth on the rising tide. The vessel will leave at approximately 00:30 on Friday 16th September.
We expect this to be the final voyage of the vessel to Nelson as ANL are looking to deploy the vessel to another service. As this deployment is not yet confirmed, ANL and the vessel’s owners will continue to work towards the installation of the reactive silencer to reduce the noise from the vessel’s generators. We will keep you updated should the vessel return to Nelson.
In the meantime, the ship has modified funnels on the generators to reduce noise and implemented operational procedures designed to reduce the noise levels until the reactive silencer is installed.
Reducing noise levels from the Port is a priority for Port Nelson. We welcome any comments from Nelson residents regarding their experience with generator noise from this vessel. Comments can be made via the Port’s online feedback form Living near the Port (portnelson.co.nz).
