About

The Port Nelson Charity Golf Tournament is an annual fundraising event that brings together teams from across the port, importing, exporting and transport industries - including participants from across New Zealand, Australia and even Singapore - for a day of fun, networking and giving back.

Over the last 21 years, we have held a number of successful tournaments that, between them, have raised in excess of $306,000 for local charities. Last year, we raised $30,000 for local charity New Zealand Riding for the Disabled.

The charity recipient is selected for a two-year term. Charities are nominated by Port Nelson staff, and then a company wide staff vote determines which organisation will be selected. This process reflects our commitment to giving back to causes that matter most to our people and our local community.

The day is more than just golf. It includes 28 teams playing on Nelson Golf Course, fun challenges, themed food stations, and a post-game dinner with a charity auction and prizegiving.

Based in Nelson, Victory Boxing is more than just a boxing gym. It offers structured programmes for youth, schools, and adults that focus on physical wellbeing, mental resilience, and building positive life skills. With a strong emphasis on character development, the organisation works closely with schools and families to engage young people who benefit from belonging, encouragement, and consistent support.

Chosen through a two-stage staff voting process, Victory Boxing stood out for its strong connection with many people who work at Port Nelson and the work it does to build confidence, connection, and resilience in young people and the wider community.

“Being selected as the Charity Golf Day recipient means a lot to us,” said Paul Hampton, Programme Director at Victory Boxing. “It’s not just financial support, it’s a message to the young people we work with that the community believes in them. We’re grateful to Port Nelson and its staff for getting behind our kaupapa.”
